Grammar School has an exceptionally valuable teachers’ and pupils’ library. There is also a large reference library which can seat 40 people. Book stack is about 30,000 books. Our library is one of the oldest in Slavonia and it is among older libraries in Croatia.It originated and developed from teachers’ library which was looked after by headmasters ( chancellors ) in the period when Jesuits, Paulists and Franciscans ran the school.

Teachers’ library book stack has been proclaimed a movable monument of culture “B” category. Pupils’ library has the book stack of 1,500 books mainly for required reading. Teachers’ library owns 9,931 inventoried and catalogued books, and about 5,000 books and magazines which are not professionally elaborated. 2,700 books in Latin, Greek, German and French language have recently been catalogued.

Protected book stack consists of scientifically valuable books, and among them there are two exceptionally valuable ones from the sixteenth and the seventeenth century, and more than 30 books from the eighteenth century. All other books are from nineteenth and twentieth century.

The oldest printed books are rarity written in Latin: Epistolae by M.T. Ciceronis from 1534 and Odyssey by Homer from 1582 with parallel texts in Greek and Latin. In our library you can also find the book of our best seventeenth century prose writer Jurij Habdelić, “Pervi otcza nassega Adama greh”, published in 1674.
